The Institutes CPCU Society Annual Meeting is more than a celebration of professional achievement. It is also a yearly opportunity to learn about the latest industry trends and disruptors, develop leadership skills, and network. Attendees invariably return to the workplace with new insights and knowledge from leaders around the industry.

Let your employer know that you are committed to your CPCU® designation, both now and in the future. When approaching your employer for support, we recommend that you follow these five simple steps:

Step 1: Do your research

Check out the 2018 Annual Meeting session descriptions, noting the sessions that will be most useful to you and your company. Discuss how the CPCU Society Annual Meeting is unique, noting that sessions include both cutting-edge information on the latest developments and trends in the industry as well as soft skills and leadership-focused education to help industry professionals succeed in the workplace. Be prepared to discuss how the session topics you identify can contribute to your professional development and, ultimately, the success of your business.

Also, be sure to mention that you can earn CE for CPCUs credits at the Annual Meeting, plus state licensing CE credits.

Step 2: Determine how you can add value

Brainstorm all the different ways you can apply what you learn at the Annual Meeting to your workplace. For example, you might be able to meet colleagues from a branch office of your company and learn how your company operates in that region. Networking and information sharing is easier than ever this year with the free 2018 Annual Meeting app, which will allow you to learn about and schedule meetings with other attendees.

Step 4: Talk to your supervisor and/or HR representative

Once you have all of the relevant information, it’s time to talk with your employer. You can send this letter to your employer directly or use it to compile talking points. You may also wish to share with your employer a copy of the 2018 Annual Meeting brochure. You’ve worked hard for your CPCU designation! By discussing your plans for future years, you can let your employer know that you are serious about maintaining your professional development.
